Our committment to making the Patriot Half a sustainable event.

Thanks to
Athletes for a Fit Planet, we are continuing our commitment of making the Patriot Half as eco-friendly as possible. We hope you’ll join us in our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint. Here are just a few of the things we are doing this year:
-
We’ve taken the FitPlanet
Pledge of Sustainability and will be implementing 12 green initiatives this year.
Recycled race shirts. Your technical T-shirt is made from recycled plastic water bottles thanks to our friends at
Greenlayer.
-
Reduce, reuse and recycle. Registration for the races is 100% online, which save a lot of paper. We are reusing at least 80% of our signage and many other materials. We hand out reusable bottles at the finish and provide water for refills. And in an effort to minimize our waste to landfill, we will be recycling plastics, paper, and cardboard, and composting our food waste.
-
Shoe Recycling. Clean out your closet and bring your used shoes to the FitPlanet booth on race day. Our shoe recycling partner
Sustainable World Fund accepts all types of men’s, women’s, and kids shoes, not just running shoes!
-
Share a ride. Every mile you drive produces about a pound of CO2. Save gas and reduce your carbon footprint by carpooling. Don’t have a friend to drive with? No problem, find a ride and make new friends through the race’s dedicated
PickupPal ridesharing site, just for registered participants and their friends and families.
-
Green portable toilets. We partner with Dave’s Septic which certifies that it uses non-

toxic chemicals, recycled toilet paper, and bio-degradable soap.
-
Volunteer for the Green Team. Not racing Patriot or Minuteman this year? You can get involved by volunteering for our Green Team to help with the recycling of the race. For more information contact Bruce Rayner at FitPlanet at
